French Chemical Society PhD Award for Olivier Dalstein

Olivier Dalstein carried out his PhD (2014-2017) at the LCMCP (Laboratoire de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Paris/Sorbonne Université, CNRS, Collège de France) under the supervision of Dr Marco Faustini and Pr David Grosso, and in collaboration with Dr Andrea Cattoni at the C2N (Centre de Nanosciences et de Nanotechnologies / CNRS).

During an award ceremony organized by the local branch of the French Chemical Society on the 4th of June 2018, 6 young researchers were awarded for the excellence of their PhD works. Olivier Dalstein received a prize sponsorized by the firm Ynsect for his thesis entitled   « Nanoporous thin films structured by Top-Down & Bottom-Up approaches: towards smartphone-compatible optical sensors ».

His PhD aimed to apply micro-nanofabrications techniques (Soft Nanoimprint Lithography, Crack-Patterning…) to nanoporous thin films (MOF, sol-gel) to fabricate photonic sensors for the detection of atmospheric pollutants such as VOC. The optical response of the fabricated sensors (e.g. diffraction gratings) are directly measured by a CCD camera or a smartphone. This work led to 4 publications and an international patent.
